"babygeek.org? why babygeek.org?" i hear this question almost anytime I tell someone the name of my domain. in order to answer the age-old question (well, not really), i've created this hand-dandy explanation page.

let's rewind back to the year 2000, when babygeek was born. (no, not me - i'm not 7.) in 2000, i lived in the great state of texas. in my off-time, i could often be found doing freelance support for one of my closest friends, who owned (and still owns) a web hosting company. the company is based in austin, which is also in the great state of texas. but, i digress...

a few of us were engaging in one of those, "wouldn't it be funny if," discussions. the kind of discussions where you make silly stuff up with your friends. the conversation started out a little something like this, "wouldn't it be funny if we were comic book characters?!"

introducing 'root' - this, of course, was my friend the owner of said web hosting company, based in the great state of texas. she was the almighty superhero, (er, superuser as the case may be), who had the ultimate in superpowers. her commands could bring down the servertropolis, or navigate logs using just two tiny letters - vi.

introducing '___' (the character that we can't remember - this was one of our friends, someone who also did freelance support on her off-hours - just today i asked her what the name of her character was, and she couldn't remember it either. at least i don't have to feel guilty.) this character was a trusty sidekick. (let it be known that i think i may have just remembered the character, but i dare not post it, until it has been verified. -update: my memory was wrong.)

introducing 'babygeek' - the youngest of the triumvirate, at a mere 23 (turning 24 in august of 2000), was the other trusty sidekick. babygeek was cute, personable, and could sometimes tap into root's superhero powers, as she knew the password. babygeek, however, did not yet know how to harness all of root's commands.

it is i, my friends, who is babygeek. seven years later (at time of writing), the inside joke still comes up now and again.

while babygeek is no longer in her 20's, she is still relatively cute, somewhat personable, and can now master many more of root's commands. and when it comes to the three friends who sat around thinking up the idea, although all have aged, babygeek is still the youngest. :)

welcome to babygeek.org - my blogcave on the web.
