Why am I "Out"?
I am out because hiding means that you're doing something wrong.
I am out because I am true to those around me and true to myself.
I am out because hundreds and thousands who came before me worked hard to give me the liberties that I have today.
I am out because I want to give future generations those liberties that I do not have today.
I am out because I am this way, without any reason, without any excuse, without any explanation.
I am out because I am who I am - A strong gay individual with a cross to bear and a torch to carry; a responsibility to the generations before me - that all their hard work was not in vain. A responsibility to the generations to come - that they might live lives of freedom.
I am out because visibility breeds awareness, awareness breeds understanding, and understanding eradicates ignorance.
I am out because I am proud - proud of who I am, proud of those before me, and proud of the future that lies ahead.
I am out because it is more than a duty; it is a privilege and an honor.
I am out because I am free.
